A condition where there is excess body weight due to an abnormal accumulation of fat. A person has traditionally been considered to be obese if they are more than 20 percent over their ideal weight. That ideal weight must take into account the person’s height, age, sex, and build. Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 30.0 to 39.9, while morbid obesity is defined as a BMI of 40.0 or higher.
BMI- Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women.
BMI Categories:
Underweight = < 18.5
Normal weight = 18.5 - 24.9
Overweight = 25 - 29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
